Today's passage comes from the New Testament book of Luke chapter 13, verses 18 to 19. As I read through the passage, I hope you can all hear the voice of the living God.
Then Jesus asked, "What is the kingdom of God like? To what should I compare it? It is like a mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the wild birds nested in its branches." Amen.
Today's passage is the familiar parable of the mustard seed, a story we have heard many times since childhood. It is a very short parable, but I'm sure that everyone is very familiar with this. Although we know the words, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can move mountains," whenever we hear this story of the mustard seed, we tend to receive it this way: small faith produces great miracles.
