Today's scripture comes from the book of Colossians 3:12-14. As I read through the passage, I hope you can all hear the voice of the living God. Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a heart of mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another. If someone happens to have a complaint against anyone else, just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also forgive others. And to all these virtues add love, which is the perfect bond. Amen.
We hear the praises every day, and we hear the singers sing, but we feel a very different feeling. So where does this feeling come from? There is a painter named Wesley Kandanski, born in Russia. He was one of the masters of Pioner in modern abstract art. In 1911, he published a book on art theory, and it is the book concerning the spiritual in art. He is very well known, and his work is also really well known around the world. In this book, he presents one absolute criterion for distinguishing between imitation that may look convincing on the surface but is lifeless in reality, and the truest and most beautiful art that stirs a human soul. He calls it inner necessity. No matter how vivid the colors, sophisticated the technique, or perfect the composition may be, if the canvas does not contain the painter's pure inner spirit and passion that moves the soul, it is not art, but merely a decoration or a display of technical skill. Conversely, even if its outward appearance is somewhat rough and unsophisticated, when an artist's soul and passion are embodied in the work, it becomes a living work of art and finally becomes complete art that touches the soul of the viewer.
Dear Somang friends, today we are celebrating the 49th anniversary of Somang Church. Over the past 49 years, our Lord has bestowed upon the church truly abundant grace beyond what we deserve. There have been majestic and sacred traditions of worship, Bible study, and training centered on the word and the ministry, and missionary efforts all around the world, and the moving labors and sacrifices of countless members who have devoted themselves, sweating and shedding tears without seeking recognition or honor, each in their own place. From a human perspective, we have much to be truly thankful for and much to be proud of.
