They must change to a grain ship and continue towards Rome. Now, another problem arises here. What could that problem be? There is now a reason for the ship to go slowly. After several days, they barely arrive at the coast of Cnidus. A problem has occurred. Now look at verse 8. Verse 8 also shows that they are struggling greatly with their navigation. After passing that coast, they arrive at a place called Fair Havens. They have arrived at Fair Havens, which is near Lasea. They can no longer proceed. Yes, they cannot go any further. Look at verse 9. A lot of time has been delayed, and the voyage has already become dangerous. This is because the fast has already ended. So this is a scene where Paul explains the situation. The reason is that the time of fasting is the Day of Atonement. If you calculate the date of that period, it is early October. However, winter is beginning. Now, during the winter months of November, December, January, and February, it is not possible to sail. This is because the storms and weather conditions become too severe for the ship to operate. Since it is dangerous to sail, what choice do they have to make? They must spend the winter in the port city of Fair Havens. At that time, see how Paul advises them. Now, let’s look at verse 10, Paul’s words. Let’s read it together. “Men, I perceive that this voyage will end with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and ship but also of our lives.” Paul said this. So let’s spend the winter in this port city of Fair Havens. Let’s not move. Paul is saying it is dangerous. But do they listen to him? In verse 11, the centurion—this centurion is Julius. He is in charge of the ship. He believed the master and the owner of the ship more than Paul’s words. He trusted them. Paul’s words did not reach his ears. Because it was a grain transport ship, the master and the owner wanted to get to Rome as quickly as possible, so they did not take Paul’s words to heart.
