On the seventh day God finished his work which he had done; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done. 3. God blessed the seventh day, and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work of creation which he had done. 4. This is the history of the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that Yahweh God made the earth and the heavens. 5. No plant of the field was yet in the earth, and no herb of the field had yet sprung up; for Yahweh God had not caused it to rain on the earth. There was not a man to till the ground, 6. but a mist went up from the earth, and watered the whole surface of the ground. 7. Yahweh God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 8. Yahweh God planted a garden eastward, in Eden, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9. The name of the second river is Gihon. It is the same river that flows through the whole land of Cush. 14. The name of the third river is Hiddekel. This is the one which flows in front of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates. 15. Yahweh God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it. 16. Yahweh God commanded the man, saying, “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; 17. but you shall not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.” 18. Yahweh God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make him a helper comparable to him.” 19. Out of the ground Yahweh God formed every animal of the field, and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called every living creature became its name. 20. The man gave names to all livestock, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field; but for man there was not found a helper comparable to him. 21. Yahweh God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. As the man slept, he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22. Yahweh God made a woman from the rib which had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. 23. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken out of Man.” 24. Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. 25. The man and his wife were both naked, and they were not ashamed.
Acts 2 1. Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2. Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3. Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them. 4. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak. 5. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky. 6. When this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were bewildered, because everyone heard them speaking in his own language. 7. They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Behold, aren’t all these who speak Galileans? 8. How do we hear, everyone in our own native language? 9. Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, 10. Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11. Cretans and Arabians: we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!” 12. They were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, “What does this mean?” 13. Others, mocking, said, “They are filled with new wine.” 14. But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke out to them, “You men of Judea, and all you who dwell at Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words. 15. For these aren’t drunken, as you suppose, seeing it is only the third hour of the day. 16. But this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel: 17. ‘It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. 18. Yes, and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days, I will pour out my Spirit, and they will prophesy. 19. I will show wonders in the sky above, and signs on the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and billows of smoke. 20. The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes. 21. It will be, that whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ 22. “Men of Israel, hear these words! John 2 1. The third day, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there. 2. Jesus also was invited, with his disciples, to the marriage. 3. When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no wine.” 4. Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with you and me? My hour has not yet come.” 5. His mother said to the servants, “Whatever he says to you, do it.” 6. Now there were six water pots of stone set there after the Jews’ way of purifying, containing two or three metretes apiece. 7. Jesus said to them, “Fill the water pots with water.” They filled them up to the brim. 8. He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the ruler of the feast.” So they took it. 9. When the ruler of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and didn’t know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the ruler of the feast called the bridegroom, 10. and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when the guests have drunk freely, then that which is worse. You have kept the good wine until now!” 11. This beginning of his signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him. 12. After this, he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, his brothers, and his disciples; and they stayed there a few days. 13. The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14. He found in the temple those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, and the changers of money sitting. 15. He made a whip of cords, and threw all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and he poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew their tables. 16. To those who sold the doves, he said, “Take these things out of here! Don’t make my Father’s house a marketplace!” 17. His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will eat me up.” 18. The Jews therefore answered him, “What sign do you show us, seeing that you do these things?” 19. Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” 20. The Jews therefore said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple! Will you raise it up in three days?” 21. But he spoke of the temple of his body. 22. When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he said this, and they believed the Scripture, and the word which Jesus had said. 23. Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in his name, observing his signs which he did. 24. But Jesus didn’t trust himself to them, because he knew everyone, 25. and because he didn’t need for anyone to testify concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.
Genesis 4 1. The man knew Eve his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Cain, and said, “I have gotten a man with Yahweh’s help.” 2. Again she gave birth, to Cain’s brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3. As time passed, Cain brought an offering to Yahweh from the fruit of the ground. 4. Abel also brought some of the firstborn of his flock and of its fat. Yahweh respected Abel and his offering, 5. but he didn’t respect Cain and his offering. Cain was very angry, and the expression on his face fell. 6. Yahweh said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen? 7. If you do well, won’t it be lifted up? If you don’t do well, sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it.” 8. Cain said to Abel, his brother, “Let’s go into the field.” While they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him. 9. Yahweh said to Cain, “Where is Abel, your brother?” He said, “I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10. Yahweh said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the ground. 11. Now you are cursed because of the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12. From now on, when you till the ground, it won’t yield its strength to you. You will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth.” 13. Cain said to Yahweh, “My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14. Behold, you have driven me out this day from the surface of the ground. I will be hidden from your face, and I will be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth. Whoever finds me will kill me.” 15. Yahweh said to him, “Therefore whoever slays Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold.” Yahweh appointed a sign for Cain, so that anyone finding him would not strike him. 16. Cain left Yahweh’s presence, and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden. 17. Cain knew his wife. She conceived, and gave birth to Enoch. He built a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. 18. To Enoch was born Irad. Irad became the father of Mehujael. Mehujael became the father of Methushael. Methushael became the father of Lamech. 19. Lamech took two wives: the name of the first one was Adah, and the name of the second one was Zillah. 20. Adah gave birth to Jabal, who was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. 21. His brother’s name was Jubal, who was the father of all who handle the harp and pipe. 22. Zillah also gave birth to Tubal Cain, the forger of every cutting instrument of brass and iron. Tubal Cain’s sister was Naamah. 23. Lamech said to his wives, “Adah and Zillah, hear my voice. You wives of Lamech, listen to my speech, for I have slain a man for wounding me, a young man for bruising me. 24. If Cain will be avenged seven times, truly Lamech seventy-seven times.” 25. Adam knew his wife again. She gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, “for God has given me another child instead of Abel, for Cain killed him.” 26. A son was also born to Seth, and he named him Enosh. At that time men began to call on Yahweh’s name.
